Hey Wonk, I hope you dont give up on your other interests so easily. You seem to have some great problem solving skills. I think you owe it to some people in here to show them this project you have been leading them along about. Otherwise it does not reflect well for either yourself or the Slipstream tuning company. Do you have firewall, virus and add blocker protection? Im not sure of others experience, but I havent been getting spammed from this site after two years of occasional posts and frequent reading. If you have to, set up a seperate email account for this site and go to the local library or Cafe to use their PC. I do it all the time. Either Welcome back or Rest in Peace. Hopefully the former.

I agree with both you and Wonk..I have not been "invaded by Bots" in the
time I've been on here,but...guess it could happen..Wonky does use the
corp computer I believe so guess there are local security issues he is concerned with.
Just my 2p's worth....hope he comes back..You can always contact him through Slipstream too...

I agree whole heartedly! I have been waiting for months like everyone else to see Wonk's transformed Baggy. It is quite vexing that just days before we finally get to see something, BAM! NADA!

i have my email and blog open posted on here
and have not had any problems
but i copy all email attachments to a memory card
and open them on a machine i call the lamb
it can be crashed by a hacker and it only takes about 10 minutes
to clone a new setup on its hard drive it has saved me many times
but none of the crap came from here

i think he is running some thing the hackers just love to attack to prove
they can do it .....because the guys that write it brag too much they can't be hacked this is like waveing a flag at a bull in a china shop
ar dave

I hadn't really noticed he'd gone. Just because he doesn't post every day - or several times a day as somepeople seem to expect doesn't mean he isn't reading. Some people do actually have little time outside of the holiday season, having to work for living as they do.

As for spamming, he's right. Look at the memberlist. The same thing happened over at the dutch Monoconnection. I am at both and several others as well. I cannot tell that spamming has increased drastically since those porn subscribers appeared, but it seems to be that such forums are vulnerable. The only ones I follow that are not are classic email lists where there is a list nanny and membership is personally OKed by that person and only 7-bit ascii text messages (no html, no attachments) are forwarded by the server. EVERYTHING else is stripped by the machine.
And by absolute contrast, the German Skorpion forum is completely open, there is no membership required and no registration and there has been absolutely no spamming there. In that forum, pseudonyms are frowned at, real-life email addresses are expected, and those idiot smilies are not available. And no spam. German is preferred but English mails are answered and even French in a pinch.

Ought to be easy for Americans to understand: the more control you impose, the more is necessary.

I went to see Wonky (Mark) on Saturday to collect a couple of cranks for my mates Supermono racer.

His main concern with the site is that all the "members" that joined will be able to invade his computer, on which Slipstream Tuning rely. He administers the Slipstream site, and has firewalls, but he knows that a bot still may get through, and he is not willing to take the chance. I don't understand all this computer talk, so will leave it to those that do.

He can be contacted via http://www.teamslipstream.co.uk and has most of us here registered on that site-although he stresses he is not wanting to take this site's thunder. I'll kreep in regular contact with him as I need advice on my build too, which is along the same lines as his mechanically, but cosmetics will differ somewhat.

Incidentally, I had a good look at his bike, which is well on it's way to completion, although that is a little time away. I am sworn to secrecy at the moment, but some of the stuff he is doing is simply "outside of the box".

There is a wealth of knowledge on this site-lets keep it that way too!

Very Happy <laughing>

Bill, thanks for that long post about thumpers - the flywheels, etc, and reminding what real thumpers are.
