A NOTE FOR OWNERS OF BIKES WITH THE ROTAX MOTOR

always shut down the rotax 504 motor with the compression release

if you shut it off with the key it can come up on the compression stroke
when stopping and then run backwards against the starter freewheel
after a few hundred times it is a $250usd do it yourself repair
dealers do not usually work on these unless they happen to have some one
on staff that owns a bike with one of these motors atk or matchless or ccm

so always stop it with the compression release then turn off the key

also check often the adjustment of the release cable
if is too tight it can cause a valve to be open just a bit and burn a valve or seat

ideal adjustment is when you set it on ... cranking the motor makes it pop closed

when adjusting the valves or having the tank off
replace the breather hose from top of the engine to the frame tank
it is a real pain to fix on the road and these bkes are all 8 to 12 years old
and some set in dealers showrooms for years so check it out

details on removing tank and seat on request.... it is a pain in the ass Smile
ar dave 1995 saxon tour
ps
a note to do regular checks include the ground wire from battery to engine
and check the brown wire from battery to coil ....if the big wire is loose or bad ground it will burn the brown wire up trying to carry the load of the starter

also before a trip check to see that spark plug is tight in its hole
i have had mine come loose twice on long trips

Thanks for the tip on the comp release. Never thought of that. As for the seat and tank, thats not as big a pain as anything I seem to get into once I have them off! My first bike is still down with a bad crank bearing, THAT is a pain in the *ss! Did you see my question about my forks??
