Hi
The start of the thread on one of the fixing studs on my RT125 speedo is damaged.

There is an image included as an attachment (not very clear, but gives a rough idea of the problem).

Can anyone give me any advice on restoring the thread. Does anyone know of someone who could restore the thread for me. It is not completely stripped, just damaged enough to stop the M5 dome nut from fitting properly.

I am able to get hold of a metric thread file, would that help in its repair?
There is a limited amount of space around the stud, so I'm not confident that a file would have enough room.

Any advice would be very much appreciated as I don't want to have to buy a new speedometer (costing over £100 I assume).

Thanks,

David

grip the stem with a pair of vice pliers(vicegrip)so it does not twist in the plastic
and run a metric thread die on it of the proper size

or install it with a plastic nut that will cut its own threads
