I'm probably going to get a 2003 SM soon and I've been reading all the posts here. I still don't know what exactly the carbs are (Teikei, both of them?) / what rebuild kits (diaphragm, o-rings) to use. ...?

they are exactly the same as the one for a Yamaha XTZ660 - that is the easiest way of getting the kit you need!

South Africa.
yes, SUDCO or carbparts, or Yamaha dealers, but it's better if you know the actual carb model/size.
