the consequences of removing 'that big lumpy thingy' would be negative.
id get a new 'guide' - and forget the 'guard'.

Hi handsomejack
If you want a nice stainless steel chain guard (on the top run of the chain - top of swingarm), look on eBay - a German outfit sell a stainless one quite cheap and with the word Baghira cut out of the stainless. Look for kettenschutz or check this past posting: 8060632556
Seller's name is motobirne.
The lower chainguard - the stainless bracket that covers the lower leading edge of the sprocket, is there on almost all motorcycles to stop your foot/passenger's foot getting caught between the chain and sprocket. Take it off and if somoeone's foot or hand etc gors in there - they will lose it.
Cheers
