Skorpion Sport speedo stopped

My speedo andd odometer stopped a few days ago.

I'm not too bothered by speed given the commuting I do, just keep ahead of/between cars

but I'm gonna find myself hitting the bottom of the fuel tank unpredictably without the odometer . Fumbling for the reserve switch whilst splitting lanes is not appealing.

I've already sprained an ankle last year pushing the bike when it ran completely dry (note for the skeptics - if you have a nearly-empty tank then a steep hill can introduce a vapor-lock so you can't get started even with enough fuel to cover the bottom of the tank and it's bloody easy to sprain an ankle pushing a bike in the dark when you step into a drain!).

Being more of a carpenter than mechanic, is the speedo worth taking apart and which end should I start at (hub or instrument) or should I just take it to the Yamaha shop who did my last service?

i would look first at drive cog in wheel hub and check cable
also these bikes are called thumpers for a reason make sure
the speedo cable is not broken inside its housing and has not came loose from the head end at speedo

ps "FOSTERS" will also cause bad ankles when the tooo many cans are empty

two things:
- if the skorpion has the big clocks, then they are programmed to go on the blink. You are lucky they've lsted this long. Forget trying to fix them, altho the manufacturer does do it. The later smaller clocks are much better.
It won't be the wurm drive at the hub.
get an electronic bicycle speedo, one with lighting, the law is satisfied and they can be set to show the exact speed.

- Then they may be called thumpers by people who don't understand them, but the XTZ engine is definitely NOT a thumper und cannot withstand low RPM (below 3000) without damage to lower end and even more to the transmission. It is an undersquare design with relatively low rotating mass. It has a big valve area which needs quite a bit of vacuum in the intake to work well. All this (only the start) means optimm performance above 4000 - up to the red line with no problems at all, none is longevity either. THe CDI limiter at 7200 is just a safety measure. THe motor can run higher easily without damage. The SRX CDI had no limiter at all. But it also had a much heavier flywheel cause of the kickstarter.

short form: no power requirements below 3000, no real pressure below 4000, try to keep it up above 4500, closer to 5500, and wind out when accelerating as far as it well go. Sometimes at least.

even shorter form: the XTZ is NOT a thumper.

And Enfield Bullet is a thumper.
A Panther is a thumper.
A long stroke Norton Inter is a thumper despite the bevel drive.

my referance to thumper was as a big single and vibes and things falling off
like the tail light...

my rt125 to me is a thumper it just thumps at a different rpm than most
but on a nice back road at 9700 rpm it just plays sweet music

GARMIN foretex 101 GPS has a speed meter page use it on the saxon tour
as it is in kph and i need MPH and it has a trip distance setting also
for gas miles counting
got mine at a ALDI store in a close out bin for $49usd i think aldi deals in OZ
no fuss hooking up to wheels just made a 3volt powersupply from a LM317
regulator as it eats the little aaa batterys
