Can anyone give me a number for an oil filter for a 2003 Baghira Enduro? Dealer wants $17.00 and Yamaha has no idea which one I need!

The oil filter is the same as the old XT250 from 1980, if this helps

The Filter is the same as the yamaha XT 600; Yahama part # 4X713440-90 for about $9.00 or a Fram CH6005 for $5.00 but the Fram also comes with new O-rings and looks the same quality.

| I use Emgo #10-79100 from JC Whitney, $2.99 each. Same as for SR500, and a whole bunch of other Yamaha models.... |

I just got 10 Emgo filters off E-bay for $24.00. Man you gotta love technology!!! Anyone running sythetic oil? If so, what?

Can someone tell me the best way to change my 660 Black Panther oil?
I don't want to overlook something. I have a new filter from the dealer already and am fairly mechanically inclined. Just dont want to over or underfill it, etc.

remove drain fitting from engine case, remove Banjo bolt attaching oil line to bottom of oil tank/head tube to drain tank.
remove bleed screw from oil filter housing and wait for oil filter housing to drain filter, then remove oil filter and replace with new filter. leave bleed screw loose when re-installing.
clean and re-attach Banjo bolt/screen.
clean and re-attach drain bolt.
add 2 quarts of oil. install oil fill cap and start engine breifly, watch for oil at loose bleed screw. shut off engine, tighten bleed screw, and add 3/4 of a quart to oil tank. start engine and follow oil checking proceedure, run at 3-4000 rpm until warm, let idle for 30 sec, and shut off and add oil until at full mark.
one easy tip: after the inital 2 quarts, you can start the engine with the oil fill cap off and listen for the tank line to suck air, you will notice a change in the sound from the oil tank. it will not hurt the engine, because there is oil in the crank case.

Thanks Phlat!!! I finally dug up my manual and your version is better.
Did you reuse the o-rings at those fittings or replace them with new? My buddy Tony said his MZ660SM leaked when he reused his old o-rings, and he had to do the oil change twice.
He also said the filters are a really tight fit. Guess I'll find out.
BTW, I plan to use Golden Spectro 4 synthetic in 10w40 as recommended by MZ.

I have re-used the o-rings every time with no leaks. just don't overtighten the oil filter cover bolts.
