|
|
I was in my local KTM dealer today visiting a pal. They used to sell MZ's but quit to focus on KTM and Aprilia (they are now a huge KTM dealer). I told my friend ( a service writer there) that I had bought a Black Panther and he replies "I'm sorry!"
Kinda pissed me off. I explained to him I was very satisfied, had done my homework and been warned away from KTM by several unhappy former KTM owners. Also - that I had saved $1500 by not buying a used Duke II.
He said his reasoning was that they had trouble getting parts from MZ and that they tended to be costly. I said (honestly) I hear the same comments about KTM all the time... but oddly not much about MZ's blowing up.
Anyway this is preaching to the choir, ... just wanted to vent. _________________ 2001 MZ Black Panther

they all blow up
they all cost too much
they all are toooo tall at a stop light for most of us
they all cost tooo much to fix even when you doo it your self
but if i can only have one bike you can't have the MZ RT125
It is the most fun bike i have ever owned
in 40 years
it gets 4 thumbs from me
and 9000 miles in 2years 3 months
you dont go that far in that time on a 125 unless it's a sweet ride
3000 miles last year on the 125 only 2200 on the saxon 500

my buddy is a top/pro level off road racer. got 2 ktms last year, dnf'ed half of the races he entered. piston/ring for 2-stroke is $220.00!!!
he kept breaking weird things like the head pipe, broke the frame where the subframe attaches, went through 3 or 4 ignition units ect....
he now rides for Yamaha!! _________________ 2001 MZ Black Panther

I have owned botha KTM 625 supercomp and a Baghira, they are both good bikes, but you have to take into acount that a KTM is really a competition bike and as such is a little roar, it vibrates more and isnt so good for comuting. I used my KTM for the odd race meating and generally just hooning around and it was great, But the MUZ is much better for distance, I traveled to the Dutch TT this year, going the long way through France, Belgium, Germany, and finally to Holland... So the thing is, they are both great bikes, but it's "horses for courses" |
