|
Over the last couple of days, I have been unable to start my rt. With The ignition on, when I push the starter button, I can hear the starter motor spinning, but not turning the engine over. Something is not engaging. I removed the starter motor and checked the splines at the end of the shaft, and these seem to be okay....Any Ideas??????? _________________ upon a hill there stands a coo,

yes I have a rt125 about 25 months 8500 miles
and the freewheel in mine died to... this is a weak spot in these
bikes use Yamaha oil for 4 cycle engines and things should go ok
be careful and don't take the new one apart or you will ruin it
if you want to see how it works play with the old one
think of it as a smart roller bearing with the rollers shaped like a figure 8
and spring loaded at a angle as motor runs it slips in the oil
if motor not running but starter turns the oil causes drag and the figure 8
stands up and binds turning crank if motor runs faster than starter it
slips this is why I say Yamaha oil the proper oil is the secret to its long life
if you have 2 bikes order 2 of them
and I forgot
www.atkusa.com
may have them in stock they used the same motor
in a 125 in 2002 or 2003
tell them you have a fun -x as some were sold as atk 125 enduro

THE SPRAG CLUTCH OR FREEWHEEL REQUIRES GOOD CLEAN OIL
DO NOT START BIKE IN GEAR WITH CLUTCH PULLED IN AS THIS LOADS
THE FREEWHEEL TOO MUCH
DO NOT RUN BIKE BACKWARDS AND STOP IT WITH THE CLUTCH
AGAINST A STOPED MOTOR
WHEN WORKING ON MOTOR DO NOT FORGET TO LOCK THE CRANK WITH THE LOCKING
TOOL
WHEN WORKING ON THE CLUTCH IF YOU DON’T HAVE A CRANK LOCKING TOOL
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND REMOVE THE STARTER ALSO WHEN WORKING
ON CHANGING THE TRANSMISSON OUTPUT CHAIN SPROCKET
AS ANY THING THAT WILL CAUSE THE STARTER TO TURN BACKWARDS CAN BREAK THE SPRAG
CLUTCH
NOT UNDER STANDING HOW THIS THING WORKS CAN CAUSE BIG BUCKS IN REPAIR BILLS
AROUND $80 USD FOR THE PART PLUS SOME OTHER STUFF MAY BE $100 OR SO IF YOU KNOW
update more like $140usd as of may 2005
i am trying to do a video tape of how to repair this
