HAD MINE A YEAR AND A HALF THIS WAS FUN THE FIRST TIME

Oil change rotax motor
Take a siphon hose and remove all the oil from the Main tank in the frame by way of the dipstick hole
This reduces the amount you will spill later…

The oil filter is K&N 151 same as BMW f650
It is located on the right side behind the plastic Cover over the front chain sprocket
It is a lot of fun to remove …Once you have the chain cover off it will be
Easy to find the filter cover

The oil drains are 36 and 37 in the picture and are on the
Right side of the bike on the oil pan… MAKE SURE you clean the magnetic plug 37
I only remove the oil pan every other oil change
If the engine history is unknown Do IT
You will not get much out of lower end…The oil is in the frame tube tank
The lower case fill plug is on the left about 4 inches behind the
Clutch cable where it enters the left case (move the kicker it blocks the view) 8mm Allen I think
When refilling about ½ quart goes in here

To completely drain the Frame oil tank you must remove
The large bolt that is on the hose to the engine at the rear
Of the frame backbone
This is the reason to siphon the tank … so the mess is not as big
This engine is the biggest mess to change oil in of any bike I have ever worked on
its not hard to do the oil change …but wait till you start the mess cleanup
One half quart in lower case 2quarts in frame back bone
run engine and top up as needed
3 qt should do it
DO CHECK EVERY THING BEFORE STARTING MOTOR
This is a good time to check the chain before putting the cover back
Here is a warning about the Saxon /etz type frame
The nut on the right seems to holds the sprocket carrier on the right Side of the swing arm and is torqued down separately
From the axle on the other side
You must line up the wheel and use the torque wrench on
Both the axle and the nut
I have not had mine completely apart and will update this ASAP
When working on mine it seemed the axle and the nut on the other side were in some way not quite connected
Or were separate from each other until tight
Torque value unknown but probably at LEAST 50 ft pounds a rt125 is listed as 100nm

OIL I USE IS SHELL ROTELLA T 15W-40
JULY 18 2005
see pictures in this post

IF YOU SEE A MISTAKE EMAIL ME ASAP
this is based on a 1995 504E motor

Wow, that really is complex. Oh well, everything that's fun comes with a price.

Hi Bill and welcome. Dave was asking for everybody with Rotax 500 MZs to "stand up and be counted". As far as I know, not too many responded. Please upload a picture of your bike when you get a chance...

Thanks again to Dave for the truly helpful info on the maintenance issues..
