Folks,

Found this site

http://www.motowheels.com/italian/myproducts.cfm?parentcategoryid=116%7CDucati%20Brakes&CategoryID=116%7CDucati%20Brakes&collection=116%7CDucati%20Brakes

It has great info on Brembo calipers ( some of which are a direct replacement to the Gimeica front ( 40 mm between bolts) and rear). Prices look good, $75 for a new brembo goldline rear caliper. They even have bracket which appear to allow you to fit the newer Brembo 65 mm bolt calipers to the 40m bolt pattern like on the MZ.

I also found this - very nice if I knew German - Bill?

that is Ronald Prinz's page. He is a really nice guy but he is not a dealer and has learned a lot from me. You can write to Ronald in English. but why don't you simply ask me.

75$ is OK but not cheap for a Brembo rear caliper.
You can regularly get this stuff off eBay for a good price. Here is some:

there's lots of it!
And I have a couple of 40mm Brembo calipers here that can go...
Run the Brembo clalipers with Carbon Lorraine SBK or C43 pads an a cast iron rotor and you'll have all the stopping power you ever wanted and more...
[urlhttp://www.carbonelorraine-moto.com/e_motos.htm[/url]

Of course there is a bracket to mount the newer 65mm fronts but the normal one of those is not as good as the 40mm style which easily replaces the Grimeca junk. The newest style 65 is the one to get if you really want stopping power. Overkill except for racing: the Skorpion is at least 100kmh too slow to warrant anything like that. Or the expense.
And then then there is the ABM caliper if you REALLY want that hi-tech stuff which has the standard 40mm bolt pattern ans uses the same small individual pads and the latest Brembo radial clamp.

Both are CNC milled so-called monobloc calipers, not diecast stuff.

I use this one on the racer, but only because I am an ABM dealer and get a slightly different price...

To upgrade the usual 40mm Brembo, you have only to exchange the pad retaining pin with a M6 bolt, cutting the M6 thread in the back half and adding a counternut at the back. The bolt is just snugged and countered. It is a BIG improvement, keeping the width constant under all conditions. An old trick with racers.

And that is the problem with the usual 65mm Brembo; the unsupported length is too great and there is no way to strengthen it.

The newest "cheap" cast model has, like the ABM CNC shown above, a bolted bridge in the center.

People seriously running not quite new Ducatis on the track change to this caliper.

Bill, is any 40mm brembo caliper a direct replacement for the skorpion? Do the smaller monsters use these calipers? Seems like you could get a used caliper for a song.
