I to think a bike range with 400 engines would sell well in Europe and the USA. However I think MZ were looking at teh learner market in Europe (restricted to 125cc) and the far east market, where economy and small engies rule.
Remember the 125 was originally made in the Far East because of this market as well as labour costs.
I suspect that no new engines will be seen for a few years yet, but maybe MZ will source engines from other manufacturers, after all CCM use the Suzuki DRZ400 engine in some of their bikes.
Just my 2c worth

I think some other companys engine is a bad idea
if i want a suzuki engine i will just buy a suzuki
if my saxon tour had a yamaha engine it would still be in some one elses
shed but i have used the rotax in an atk and a ktm and knew what i was getting
say they do build with some one elses engine when it gets to selling good
if its any competetion then that company cuts supply of engines
they do not win the game using some one elses engine
10 years from now oem parts for there own engines is a big part of the
profit
i say this because here where i live its becoming a fad to fix up an old bike
as a daily rider
local atv shop guy said he sold 3 dead honda gold wings to 2 brothers the other day
they plan to fix them up because the new ones cost to much.. 1 set in barn rats ate wiring harness..
they took harness from other bike
and had running clean bike in less than 2 weeks other one is due to be finished in about 2 weeks 2 runners for less than 2200usd and a shed full of spairs
