|
my friend HOSER and i took a short jaunt up the california coast...with little (actually no prep - and hardly a plan) we packed up - made like a baby...and headed out.
it was soo freekin' hot that day!!
this is hoser - totally impervious to heat.
some of the beautiful 'nowhere'

i actually dropped the first disposable camera somewhere on the 101 just south of SAN LUIS OBISPO...naturally that was the camera that had ALL pulitzer grade shots on it...c'est la vie.
shortly after the photo above (the one with shorts on!!) my bike backfired while idling thru holiday traffic...and - unbeknwownst to me - smoke began pouring out from under the seat...(HOSER @ this point was frantically gesticulating towards me - and once i realized he wasnt complimenting my baggy - AGAIN!!) - i pulled off the road to untie the gear ASAMFP to get under the seat before my beauty burned to the ground.
aparently when she backfired - the OILY airfilter caught fire (briefly) - then smothered herself out...(WHAT LUCK!!)
naturally - we soldiered on (with a basically OPEN carbuerator) til we found a yamaha dealer in santa barbara that had a near perfect fit (it needed to be stretched in a few odd ways to make it fit!!) - ehh - it worked just fine - in fact - its still on today!!
anywho - back to the pix...
as we approach HEARST CASTLE...
hoser coming thru a nice little chicane...
me - doing the same...

You certainly wouldent want to ride n shorts here at teh moment. Max temp 10C, high 40 F approx.
Still looks like more of teh same, going to Dallas next week for 10 days, with the wife, to see friends in Carrollton.

headed north towards monterey...
once we rounded that ominous foggy corner ahead - the temp dropped to a COMICAL level - and all i could do for the remaining 60+ miles was scream and laugh @ the top of my lungs as my face proceeded to go numb!!
this is what happens when you fumble around for a 'LOADED AND READY' camera...
we rode on the beach in OCEANO...tons of fun for 400lbs motorcycles - with 170lbs riders - with 100lbs of gear - and 30lbs of gas...
sampling the VINO in OCEANO

Thanks drj! Just what I needed about now. The weather's clear and mild here in Nor Cal, but the Baggy's apart for some winter mods, so I've been cheated out of enjoying the unseasonably dry conditions.
Coincidentally, my buddy and I rode the opposite direction down 1 this summer. We went south on Hwy 1, through SLO to Solvang, then back up 101/58/33/198/25 home. Maybe we passed each other!
Thanks again for the great pics and break from the winter PMS (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome).

its the SHOEI "V-MOTO"...thats my 2nd - and i just ordered my 3rd...
2 years ago - i stopped to take in a view - so i took my helmet (#1) off and set it on the bars (of my XR) - and the bike fell over about 2 sec later!!
as for #2 - that one was perfect until i wiped out on my XR @ about 40 mph - and for the first time - i landed on my head - and ONLY my head!!
ive been riding my BAGGY with #2 - shes still fine around town - but #3 is on the way for dirtbiking...seems like the smart thing to do (whatever that is!)
as for the MX helmet on the road...I LOVE IT...i have the visor (which ALWAYS comes in handy) - and its a LOT cooler than a street helmet (literally!!) - not to mention - it IS also waay 'cooler' lookin'...
like anything else - it takes a little time to get used to...but - it doesnt even faze me now. i own a perfectly good street helmet and i dont even use it... c'est la vie!
good luck
