Bought new BP today, however while getting it ready for take-home the mech. couldn't get it to start!!!!! Got there right at closing and paid for it on credit card to speed up process or have to wait until Tue. (couldnt wait!) and was very anxious to ride tomorrow. Great way to break her in Sun. morning in SO CA. BUT NOOOOO! Now I have to wait because they couldn't figure out why. I was already wary since MZ is not a well known brand around my area and they assured me that they had never had any problems. Well now I'm a little concerned since they have my money and I have no bike! Is this a sign of things to come? This is a brand new never been prepped before bike mind you not some used beater. Any idea as to what the problem might be? The guy prepping said its never happened before(of course)usually just put in oil and batt. and its good to go.

It is uncommon for this to happen, but get him to check the side stand switch

Keep a positive attitude, it is probably a small overlooked detail. I recently purchased an 04 BP myself. I think others in this forum will attest to the overall build quality and reliability of these bikes. These bikes are much more like a benz than a volkswagen bug.

Bought an 04 BP as my XR650 supermoto couldn't be used for my commute to London (120 miles daily).

Not using it at the minute as first service is due, but the first 1000kms have been surprising. I bought it as a "supermoto commuter" as the XR was too race orientated to use daily, but it's more than that. When did ypou last see grease nipples on rear suspension.? 5 hours to strip and repack the XR.

One that Jack Nice in Walthamstow services has (by now) well over 100,000 kms on it, with no problems reported whatsoever, bar the normal wear and tear items. Spunds like yours is one of those flukey, annoying one offs. I am sure the dealer is rreally embarrased by it.

Be assured, it is not a precursor to doom and gloom.

If it turns over but doesn't fire make sure you have full choke with NO throttle..... If it doesn't turn over make sure you have side stand all the up and in neutral...... its prolly something basic.........If the kickstand switch appears to be making contact trace the wire up under the front of the seat.... there is a white plug If its loose then you won't get any ignition..... for future what I did is take that sidestand switch out completely, at that plug I mentioned I cut all that out and hardwired the cable into a loop so when that switch goes tits up I'm not stranded somewhere......

thanks for the replies concerning my non-starting BP. It's a beautiful Sun. morning here and I'm talking to all of you instead of being out on my new bike! Oh well, at least I feel better knowing that you all love your bikes and it's not a sign of poor quality. However, if it is something as simple as the sidestand I'm going to KILL the guy setting it up because I even mentioned that possibility to him and of course he blew me off!!!!!! So if I get a call Tue. saying it's ready and that's all it was I'm going to be a little pissed(like I'm not already?)Knowing that it's mine paid for and all but not having it is like someone giving you a present but not letting you open it! I'll just tell myself that things happen for a reason and look forward to that call from the dealer.

Yep. It's most likely the kickstand switch. You're gonna love that bike.... Very Happy
