Those crashbars looks like they can take a crach or two.
Where did you bought them, or have you made them yourself?

YAHOOOO!!! that's more like it.
DeMARK - (no offense) but what's the advantage of sticking that boat anchor rear wheel on there? Unless the Skorpion wheels are magnesium?
Different tire size?
I like your crash guards so much I won't say a word about that rear fender... except it reminds me of those Tuxedos with the long tails.. hahaha <jk> Curious to get more details on the toolbox too.
Phlat - how's that seat mod look....same as stock or did you reshape it? What "pad" did you use and where did you get it?

Phlat, I have seen your sliders (skete wheels?) in other threads ... very cool... but I am still clueless about the exact process to mount these on the Baghira. Can you walk us thru it?
Thanks!

Hulagun, the advantages of the mag wheel are:
1) No more broken spokes (I've replaced spokes in the rear wheel three times)
2) Should I get a flat at high speed the tire should stay on the rim instead of breaking loose and causing me to fall. Last time this happened I bailed off at about 75 mph in heavy traffic.
After what I have been thru with the spoke wheels on my Baghira I HATE SPOKE WHEELS!, can't wait to get the front mag off the Skorpion on it too.
Anders, the crashbars are an MZ item, I bought them used off a guy in the UK.
Anyone know where I can get a rear brake disc for a Skorpion this week?

Brian -
I see you got your Pro Tapers fitted.
What did you use for mounts?
I went to install my new pro Tapers and OOPS - my dealer sold me the Pro Taper "universal" mounts for rubber mounted bars. Of course it turned out their special (D-head) PT bolts are 12mm. No fit in MZ holes! The MZ uses 10mm hexhead bolts... so at this point I need to either get different mounts or start cutting, drilling, and shimming.
Please tell me you found a mounting kit that just bolted on.
Universal = one size fits nothing.

you crack me up !!! Phlat and I used grinders and decreased the headsize of the original bolts.... so yes the bolt is smaller in diameter for the holes on the protaper risers.....one of these days I will pull it apart and put alloy spacers in there (would look like tubes)....The head of the bolt centers on the riser so I don't really care... Phlat crashed hard on the bars and did not dislodge that part.... its ok he already admitted crashing not too long ago

Yeah, thanks. ... that was my "Plan B". Grind down some 10mm bolts until they go in. I might try using allen (internal hex) bolts - especially if it involves just flattening one side.
Whatever I use, I plan to cut some 1mm shim stock (maybe from a beer can?) and wrap around the bolt to fill up the gap inside the lower mount. Not necessary, but it'll eliminate any possibility of slop.

A quick update on brake discs. My front brake disc (rotor?) on my baggi is well worn. Not just its thicknes, but the play on the bobbins is quite alarming. Allowing movement between the wheel and brake that can be felt if the bike is rocked back and forth with the front brake on. In an earlier post I suggested that R1/R6 Yamaha brake discs should fit.
Well I just got a pair of R6 brake discs off of e-bay in good condition and they fit the Baghira SM spot on. I paid £40 plus £7.50 P7P for them, at just over £20 each its gotta be cheaper then buying new from MZ and when was the last time you saw a secondhand MZ disc for sale.
The R6 discs have more bobbins between teh rotor and teh disc centre so are a litle heavier, but I don't think it will effect the bike
Got a bit worried at first as the brake lever was real spongy, then realised the existing pads are that worn and they the movement is prob due to the pads being worn to the old disc. Well thats what I think it was anyway. I am fitting new pads tomorrow and will let you all know if this cures the problem.
One word of caution. Like the rear sprocket bolts, the disc bolts are locktighted in and I had to use an inpact driver to get them out.
If anyone in the UK would like teh spare R6 disc I now have make me an offer (I think about £25 inc postage would be about right)
Keith

hey keith-
Great deal. The MZ rotor centers are steel, and IIRC the R series rotor carriers are aluminum, so that should offset the added bobbins. I may be wrong, did you put a magnet on the carriers to see?
Also can you measure your old MZ disk and post it (outer and inner diameter etc) for the record? Thanks!!

You got a good buy, I bought a rear disc for my Skorpion last week from the MZ dealer for $140USD.

I am going to see if I can find an alternitive for teh rear disc next. Not that I need one, but it would be usefull to know.
I am also going to keep an eye open for a wavey disc on ebay as well.

The R6 brake rotor centre is aluminium and not steel as the MZ unit as hulagun stated.
Rotor sizes are
Outside diameter of rotor 298mm
Inside diameter of rotor 132mm
PCD of the 6 fixing bolts (measurement between diagonally opposite fixing hole centres) 150mm
Minimum rotor thickness 4.5mm
Hope this is of use to someone. If you are looking at wavey discs then just order an earlier R1 or R6 one.

|
|
I just installed MZ 125SM footpeg rubbers onto my 660 Black Panther. They cost about $15 and popped right in place. Two benefits: decreased vibration thru the boot soles, and no more hooking my pant leg on the metal peg tabs. I also was scraping up my boots and leather pants now and then.
Here's a picture, it also shows my OnGuard disk lock. I'm trying out carrying it in the pouch (comes with the lock) ziptied to the frame. Sofar it's pretty nice. The lock was a heavy bulky item in my courier bag or pocket.
Review of the lock: Great lock, although the key is sloppy/fiddly which I do not like at all. I prefer my old Kryptonite, but am still waiting for them to send me the updated lock.
UPDATE: a new U-lock just arrived from Kryptonite for my bicycle - and they use same fiddly type of key as the OnGuard locks! ha! Also the OnGuard puch (see photo) is not holding up well, I fear my lock may fall out soon. Must find a new way to haul it. (updated 01Feb05)
