I ran across this info. while looking for an after market Air filter for my Skorpion. After reading this, I'll just stay with the stock paper filter an save $ in the long run.

Hi there,

in Germany, a motorbike magazine called "Motorrad", made a 6000 km
Oil-Test with six Bandit 1200. The test oils were for instance Castrol 10W40, HeinGerike 10W40, Liqui Moly 10W40 and a Muligrade No-name DIY- Center Oil.
After the test they brought the oils to a laboratory. All oils were in good conditions and about at the same level. Of course the Castrol was the most expensive oil and best in the test, but the others were on the same quality level and the differences were so weak that also the discount DIY-oil was absolutely recommendable.
It seems that there aren't any bad oils on the market and it seems that everything is out of the same pot.

Yea, hard to believe whos right about what oil is best to use.
I remember in the 70's, I think it was "Cycle World Mag" did an extensive oils test looking for the difference between 10W40, 20W50 and several others of Oil temp, engine temp and head temp.
They're test showed temperatures reaching the edge of destruction with the heavy oils like 20w50 or straight 40W when the bikes were riden hard or high speed cruising. And the only way to cool the engine down was with the "throttle hand". Easy accell and slower speeds.
When the bikes were useing the manufacture suggested 10W40 oil (no brand mentioned as I recall) they stayed within a safe temp range even when driven hard. The only bike not effected was the water cooled.
When the Moto Guzzi race team started using Mobil 1 (synthetic) oil, they noticed much less valve adjustments had to be done between races. So I assume that ment less wear on the engine.
Do you know anyone who'd like to trade a Baghira or Mastiff for a 2002 Skorpion (only 3,700 miles). I got long legs an need more room to stretch out.

I use 84 cent (a quart) Wal-Mart brand oil in my Tour. Of course it is impossible to tear the engine down or make a comparision with other oils but it runs fine and the oil meets all current ASE specs. The motor runs perfect with 30,000 km on it. Jim/St. Paul/Minnesota

A friend of mine who is a marine engine Tech started using "Chevron Marine Engine Oil" in his GSXR 1000 race bike......1 st race halfway thru spun a bearing and threw a rod........ He went back to exspensive "motorcycle oil" same weight.......swears the engine blowing was from the Chevron oil.... he has run two races thus far with no problems at all........???
