im new to the list and am interested in getting some opinions. I have an opportunity to either A)purchase a NEW 2001 Street Moto in Red for roughly $5k or B)wait until March to possibly get my hands on a new husquvarna 610SM for around $6500.
Im tryin to get opinions on whether the 01 street moto is comparable to the husquvarna?is that even a good price for the 01? any headaches that come with an 01?
any honest opinions/comments appreciated _________________ matt maroon

2 of the bikes you have already are going to share the same characteristics of an MZ s/m style of bike on the street. If your looking for a racy lightweight get the Husky. When I got my BP I also looked at the KTM 625smc. Now I know the MZ was a better choice for the commuting I do. |

I hate to say it too, but the new Husky is sooo cool!!!!
but I don't know what the reliability will be, the MZ with the Yamaha engine can not be beat in this segment for reliability.... _________________ 2001 MZ Black Panther

If you get the MZ you can tune it and will have to put it on a serious diet to make it competitive against the Husky. It could still be cheaper though

forgot to add: my2001 MZ Black Panther has just over 10,000 miles, and I have had to replace the following:
3 sets tires
1 front brake light switch
1 chain
1 turn signal flasher
4 oil filters with oil changes
I have modified the following:
2 exhaust systems, 1 dual can quiet, 1 single can open race LOUD
acerbis front SM fender, cyclops light with HID light
Trailtech speedo system
custom cut seat foam for comfort
rear turnsignals from 04 BMW car
MSR Bark Busters
Axle sliders and rear foot peg sliders
It still runs mint with no noises or issues. I am sure that motor will go 40-50K miles with only regular maintenance. I ride it HARD, and have raced it in the novice class. I have crashed it 3 times, once on asphalt at 40-50, with only scraped bark buster and axle slider.. _________________ 2001 MZ Black Panther

I use my Baghira quite hard, but have never raced on it. I have always changed the oil regularly and the engine developed a wierd noise from teh engine, a sort of grating rumbling noise in time with engine speed not road speed at 47000kms. I have yet to sort it out as I had a spare yamaha engine in my owrkshop .
I will post what the problem is when I find out.

hello
when you decided which one to get remember where the money goes
Proton Malaysia now ownes a big chunk of husky
Hong Leong Industries Malaysia owns MUZ
The MZ Division is represented mainly by two companies:
Motorrad-und Zweiradwerk GmbH (in Germany)
MZ Motorrad Sdn Bhd (in Malaysia) MZM
so now when they count the money they count the profits in Malaysia
for both bike brands

47k kloms? That's, what? Just under 30,000 miles? Mine's up and around that much and it still sounds like a watch, no noises or owt and it has been SERIOUSLY abused, but serviced and given oil changes fairly regularly. Be interested to learn what the noise is, mate, I really would ... _________________ I'm too unimaginative to think of anything witty ... |

I just found an option C) a used 2001 black panther with 5075 (not sure if this is miles or kl) on the bike for a marked price of $4250.
Does this sound like a good deal? what is the conversion for kilometers to miles? _________________ matt maroon

looks like im goin with the used BP. So if anyone in socal is lookin OCPOWERSPORTS has a new 2001 Street Moto in Red- reduced height- for $4999 plus tax and licensing.
I will hopefully pick my bp up in the next week and let the mods begin. The first one will be to put an M4 exhaust on there. From there who knows maybe some flatsides and rejet?
I will definitely need to get the suspension set correctly. _________________ matt maroon
