Got my single Ducati 748 can installed underseat on my '04 MZ last night.
Fabing the pipe was a bitch but it fits well and doesn't look too bad considering I can't weld worth a crap. The fit is tight but not too tight, it doesn't appear to need any heat shields and is mounted on rubber mounts where it attaches to the sub-frame so it shakes a bit in time with the engine. It is way too quiet but I can work on that. I can't see any problems with clearance...8.5 inches from top of tire to bottom of silencer.

Got it all cleaned up and put on a few miles tonight with no problems (no tag, rear light or signals until Thursday). I am using a pair of Hyperlites for taillight and reusing the stock signals modified a bit.

Here is a shot of it @ 3;00 pm today, two hours later I was riding.

More pics after I do the lights and plate. Won't be completed for a week or so after that but I think it has promise.

Mike

Be carefull with this one. If memory serves me right the Full Baghira has 10 inches of rear suspension movement.
Looking good though.

Keith

That was a concern of mine at the start but after conducting a scientific test (had my fattest friend bounce on it) it doesn't seem to be an issue. Now that I'm thinking of it..if the suspension travel was 10 inches and I have 8.5 showing what would the sag be? That must be part of the ten I would think.

Thanks for the feedback Keith!

I removed the shock and swept the wheel when I did mine, and it came within 2 inches of the underside if the fender before the swing arm contacted the drain in the air box. I decided to go each side due to that, But that looks great!! if it ever hits, it shoudn't be too much of a problem anyway.

I think the full height is closer to 12 inches of wheel travel.

OK..here is the bike with a plate mount made of stainless sheet fastened to the silencer end cap with a view of the pair of Hyperlites in the running light mode. The brake light mode is much, much brighter and it flashes as well. I'm not sure I like the look but I'll ride it over the weekend and see how I feel. Tomorrow I'll add the plate light and the turn signals.
The rear clearance..try as I might I can't get it to bottom out. I wonder if the ultimate determining factor of the amount of clearance is shock travel, that is what seems to be stopping it.

just fasten the plate to the air box in front of the tire. lots of cali guys do that.

I thought about mounting led's inside the outer ring of the end cap on my 748 cans, I would have a left and right, it would be very different! Twisted Evil

I have considered the plate on the airbox but things are a bit hostile around here between police and sportbikers. One of my riding buddies just got pulled for an underfender tag on a 996 and it led to fines of over $300 and a close call for DUI. But I may end up doing it anyway. I put the turn signals on last night and they look great so now I need to clean up the tag issue and the tailights. I, as well, have been thinking of LED's in the exhaust end cap. I'll see what today brings (I've got too much time on my hands this week).

Here is the final form (for now). Took it out for a night ride yesterday to check out the lighting and then a little rough road work for tightness of system and suspension travel..all ok so far. Here is a bad picture, the plate is lite by a single encapsulated LED and appears to be legal. There is one Hyperlight on the rear fender. Check it out.

on the final picture, what did you end up doin about a brake light/running light?

The bike looks good otherwise. I like the look of the pipe. Keeps the sleek svelte look and lines of the bike

The brake/running light ( a Hyperlight) is directly above the exhaust outlet on the rear fender, it is only 7/8 of an inch high so it is barely noticiable. It is bright as can be, almost blinding, as long it is viewed directly from the rear. There is a problem when being viewed from the sides but I will find a way to change that. The picture is poor, I'll try again soon.
Next is Protaper bars and a change in mirrors, handguards, and maybe some Hella eyeball headlights in a custom enclosure. But mainly I like to ride this thing so all the projects have to be done in a way that the bike isn't tied up for more than a few days at a time.

Just turned over 750 miles on my exhaust mod with nary a problem except it is too quiet. BCM Ducati is sending me some materials to turn the stock can into a 'performance unit" (louder). It should be done mid next week and I expect to have to do some jet work. Where can I source some jets?

what is bcm sending you? I know guys that "core" their stock pipes to make them louder. That is basically opening them up and removing the stuffing so to speak
