best mod to the baggie supermoto ...when would it be a good idea to change the wheels and tires. Is the factory set up a good one or can it be improved. If so what the wheel tire combo of choice

the Behr wheels are top shelf! the hubs are stock yamaha XT? I wouldn't change the wheels, only tires. maybe Pirelli Diablos.

would it make sense to get new hubs?.. what kind?... talon what should it cost to relace them. Also the diablos ..tread design looks baddass.. would you consider them road racing tires or supermoto ...the stockers look like theyare dual purpose.

New hubs ??? I wouldn't even bother.....MT60's are 90% street 10% Dirt.
Diablos, I have recently found are the preferred tire with Metzler Sport tecs in 2nd place. These tires are 90 % Street and 10% track... ZR Rated that heat up quickly on smaller lightweight bikes.
These Bikes we own are big and heavy in comparison to others, our bikes are spectacular for around the street and fireroads etc. the boys on the track run bikes that are 240 lbs. I am going to start taking my bike to the track to see If I would enjoy it and get better... If I do I will keep my MZ for street and get a KTM 525 or something to race.
I'm not cheap but there are some things on our bikes that are really good, why change things for the sake of change...... If you ride street only get Diablos, If the bars aren't quite right get Pro Tapers, the exhaust system is huge change that, rear light fender sucks change that, get bark busters and sliders If you are really aggressive on the street.....You don't ride the HWY change gearing so you can do 2-3 gear wheelies.....want a better look to your bike change mirrors, headlight assembly, pull off the blinkers and flush new ones in etc etc etc ...... Wink

by chaning the gearing should I go one tooth up or one tooth down front or rear...I don't want to change for change sake only to improve and modify for the type of riding I like. Back roads, Back ally crushing (center city)

Bit off on a tangent, but put a Scottoiler on. Torquey big singles eat chains and sprockets, leading to much tedious fiddling with chain tensions etc. especially with throttle abuse Fill it up every 400-500 miles and adjust the chain every 3-4000! Especially good for those of us living in a "mixed" climate. You won't notice the extra weight.

1 tooth down on the front is like 3 teeth on the rear. will improve the torque to the rear wheel. I am having trouble finding a 14t front sprocket (same as 90 and up XT600) if anyone knows what brand works, let me know. Changing hubs has no benefit. I dont think you can get a talon with a cush drive, which you really need for the street. Are you loaded credit? if so, call tune bike, send them your cylinder, and get the big bore done with higher rev limit ign box, and flat slides. close to 65-68 RWHP. you wont complain about the weight anymore.

Phat 65 is that the same as getting a wiseco piston and cam. What should the engine work cost. I'm not loaded but am willing to invest into this hobbie.

I am too lazy to get off my butt and do it. but I have a Hot Cam sitting here to put in. But I most likely won't do it until the summer. I am a school teacher and going to Grad school so I will wait until school lets out.

You could always keep the hubs and just fit some ceramic-bearings in them... and I've been having a recurring daydream/fantasy of welding in a thin aluminum-strip over the spoke-holes on the inside of the rim so I can run the tires without the tubes and still be able to adjust the spokes...

...I spose I'd need a welder to do it... but a girl can dream, right? Smile

there is a company making a conversion kit to run tubeless on spoked wheels, some of the supermoto guys are talking about it. for street use, I do not think the benifits out weigh the costs.. MY2C...

I worked for a dragbike shop and we used to convert all of the spoke rimmed to tubeless. I think it was just done with silicone and patience. But if anyone wants to know how to do it I can ask one of my friends who used to work there.
