|
|
While surfing the net, I found a few sites going on about the Yamaha Raptor 660. For those who don't know (like me, half an hour ago!) its a Quad made by Yamaha with a 660 single in it.
I was actually surfing to find out about various modifications that could be carried out on the Baggy, it seems some bright spark has put a turbo on his Raptor quad - just got me thinkin!
Anyone know anything about these Raptors and any kind of interexchangeability between them and our 660cc engine?

Hi
The bottom end of the engine unit is diferent, even the rear sprocket splines are different. The top end however is the same, the piston, cylinder and heads are the same.
The engine unit parts and carburettors are interchangable with the Yamaha XTZ660 and the SZR660. Part for these are readily available in the UK.

except the raptor uses Ti valves, and a 9,000 rev limit. _________________ 2001 MZ Black Panther

Does Ti mean Titanium?
If I used these valves, would I also have a 9000 rev limit?
Seems too simple - I would have thought the cam would need to be different and possibly a lighter piston to get that kind of revs out of this engine! _________________ I will only run out of ways of modify the Baggy when it weighs less that 100 kg and runs 100 bhp at the back wheel!!

titanium valves, the rev limit is upped to 9,000 or so in the ignition box. _________________ 2001 MZ Black Panther

Just listening to raptor I can tell the top end is different, it sounds more powerful as compared to the MZ. I would suspect in addition the the valves being ti, the cam has a different grind and the piston is higher compression... |

If you look at the specs teh compression ratio is the same on teh Bagi and the raptor. Cam might be different though.
