Skorpion Sport Cup Oil Resevoir Leak

On a Marin County group ride this morning, I discovered oil dripping on my rear tire; just what I needed in the ultra twisties that lay ahead.

At the breakfast stop, we discovered that the hose that leads back from the engine up to the tail mounted oil resevior had a split in it. Electrical tape and zip ties bundled it up for the rest of the ride, but I need to fix it ASAP as I use this bike everyday.

PS: MANY thanks to Rob who jumped in to repair the hose, and to the 2 motard guys who supplied tape and zip ties....I have lerned the lesson that I must bring tools, electrical tape, zip ties, napkins....

1. The hose rubber is rock hard; replace for sure; thoughts on steel braided line?
2. The plastic resevoir looks like it may be cracked and filled with silicon from the previous owner. Replacements: OEM plastic? aftermarket aluminum? Does anybody know a fabber that has made such a thing for Skorps already?

On a side note, why does this bike need so dang much oil anyway?

the extra oil takes heat away to the tank
and is one way to get it to run cooler
even when watercooled

Have ever heard of an aluminum one? I'm asking around to some hot rod friends about fabbing one.

PS How's your recovery going? I had a cardiac episode @ 18 and 26, including surgery to correct a pacemaker birth defect. Hope you're feeling better and back on 2 wheels.

ps the oil tank on my saxon tour is the frame tube under the gas tank

a buell xb9 uses the whole inside of the rear swing arm

I used to think my Skorp Sport was drinking a lot of oil, having to top it up nearly every time I used it, but I've since discovered the underside of the tank is always covered in oil. None on the tyre or hugger fortunately.

It looks like oil is ooozing out from one of the bolts underneath. Wonder if I can squidge some silicon sealer round it or something

And yeah, why do they drink so much (when they're not chucking on the floor)?

the oil drinking has to do with lubing the piston
big pistons seem to cause high oil use because they need room
to expand till they get hot
a lot of oil gets past the rings and is used

my 1974 r90s bmw 898cc was a real oil pumper all its life even with
custom rings a quart in 750 to1000 miles was normal
after 479,000 miles and 28 years i learned to live with checking the dipstick
often

My Baggi has burns a negligable amount of oil in between the 3,000km oil changes (possibly because I ran it in very carefully over 3,000 kms)

My 32,000 km Sport is the same-none burnt between changes.

The works Vauxhall Astra 2.2 coupe goes through a litre of Mobil One every 600-800 miles, and I do not give that the stick I give my MZ's.

I would not recommend useing silicon sealant to stop any leak as described. Take a good look and it may be possible to use some plastic weding filler rod to fix it.
