My Sport Cup is doing a lot of "snap crackle & popping" when engine braking. Am I running rich? If so how do I adjust the mixture?

My Tour will backfire about once every 500 miles when off the gas and coasting, otherwise runs perfect. It rather startles me as it is so seldom. JK, reason? good question...

sounds like the carb deff needs some jetting, or there maybe some debris in the idle circuit. did you put on a pipe with no jetting changes? it is best to get a jet kit than try to set up yourself. not very adjustable carb..

Yes I did put an M4 can on the bike last fall with no jetting changes. It ran great all winter. Just recently the weather heated up above 90F and I thought maybe the change in air density had something to do with it. The idle speed also dropped and had to adjust it.

Sometimes backfiring can indicate a lean condition. Call Dan at the number below and he will discuss what you could do. Tell him you're from the MZRiders forum.
