Hi people............

Just discovered this sight.
Have been an MZ owner for 1 week now.
Purchased a SM125 from new, and loving it sooooooooooooo much.
I have a quick question.

I have noticed a few drops of coolent under my bike and around the engine.

Its hard to say where it has come from,

Is this something to worry about, or is this normal......... bedding in period and all that.???????

Please help.

welcome to the site!!

just my 2 cents worth

since it's new, then i would say it's the bedding in period...
btw,is it dripping???if it is,bring it back to the dealer...but if it's not...
just give your bike a gd wash, run it for a few days... and see if it still appears...and take note where it's from(if any)...

keep us posted!

cheers. Very Happy

It has happened twice.
Both times after a ride while parked and cooling down.

First time was the 2nd day I had the bike, and was maybe 3 drops.

Then again the next day. But was maybe 10 drops.

Ihave since cleaned the blue crap off my engine, it has been twos days now and NO DRIPS......!!!!!

(wow thanks for the speedy response JB - think I will be on these forums quite a bit from now on)

don't mention it.

no more drips???that's great!!
just to be on the safe side,do check your coolant level when the bike's cold.

Ride safely!

there are only two outlets for the coolant(not including leaky hoses of course)

one is from the overflow valve(near the radiator cap)...the hose is tied along the front engine mounting....

the other outlet is right under the engine,a bit to the right side.
this one doesn't usually leak on new bikes(any)...highly unlikely...

i think it's the cap that's giving you the problem...(just a guess)

anyway....since it's new...maybe you could ride it to your dealer and have them look at it...optimize the use of your warranty while you have it

gd luck...!!

see picture below
location 1 a hole on bottom of motor may weap some times
but if you get a lot here it may be a bad waterpump seal
there is a drain hole here to let water out if the pump seal fails

item 2 the over flow tube may get some here if system is too full
in very hot weather there is no catch tank like on a car

for a bunch of info on your bike go to the search page of the site

firstly, thank you all for your help!!!!!!!!!!

The coolent leak seems to be stopping.

It is not the over flow hose, as I have now located that and its clean and dry.

I dont think it is the drain hole either as the coolent is dripping from the very top of the engine.

(ok sorry for the bad terms..... If you look on the left side of the bike at the top part of the motor there is a peice of metal with two hoses attatched. (ones about 2" the other 1 1/2"
One runs straight up and the other runs back towards the exhuse.

It seems to be coming fromto the hose that runs virtically straight up.

It has pretty much stopped by itself now.
Im still keeping an eye on it.

Will prob take bake to the show anyhow, just to be on the safe side.

ok...that's a bit of relief.... Smile
it's just a loose hose clamp then...

p/s:i took the easy way out by replacing mine with normal hose clamp...
but you'll lose the "bling" factor....haha..

are you sure it's petrol??how did it get up the??? Shocked
BUT if it's the engine oil...just tighten those screws on the head cover..(not too tight, though)

for the coolant problem, tell them to check ALL of the hoses....including the small one which links the two piece radiator together...most likely it's a leaky hose...

hope this helps!

I would say your 100% right. (about the coolant)
The guys in the shop just didnt fix the leak.
I called them this morning and they slipped up by saying: -
"When youve done 500 miles and come in for your 1st service we will fix it properly then...." sugesting that they didnt "fix properly" on sat.

As for the petrol,,,, its just the dranage pipe... its a 5/10mm clear pipe that dones an S bend and catches the overflow.... and it was like half a drip (maybe not even that), and I panicked.

Every thing I know about motorbikes I have learnt in the last 3 weeks.......

its a learnng curve for me,,,,,,,,, thanks for your help.

ok. since it's the drainage pipe...for the up coming service....ask them to reset/adjust your float in your carburetor....i had this problem when i first got the bike too...

p/s:don't worry...everyone starts from scratch...but we have to start somewhere, right? Very Happy

cheers.
