|
|
Hi guys
Took my Baghira Street Moto to a tuning shop with some other SM riders today. We all put our bikes on a Dyno to see who had what in the power stakes.
My bike a 2001 model with a BSM Uk legal can and no carb mods was according to the operator fueling just on the safe side, a little rich top end.
Any way after seeing a few other bikes put through thier paces (with the most powerful, a tuned Honda XR650 reacing 62.?bhp iy was my turn.
So the rear wheel power of a fairly standard Baggy - 30.3 @ 6400rpm and 33.2 ft-lbs @ 2800rpm.
The test runs also show the top speed it reached on the dyno - 92mph
A bit dissapinting but there you go.
Also today I went to a shop which woks on an MZ used in the UK Super mono series. Talked to the owner and it has a big bore kit, trick ignition systems and a flowed head amongst other things. 720cc and 78bhp. Dont know the rest but the engine would be something in the baggi.

I am curious what kind fo Dyno you were using. The HP output seems real low for an MZ660 if it is a Dynojet. I worked dynos for many years and oneday I was bored and threw my stock Mastiff (might have jetting changes) on the dyno and it made 46hp. |

The machine uset was a Dynojet model 200. As for the readings obtained all other bikes that were tested that day seemed to have the right fiqures, ie KTM 46bhp, XR650R (3 tested) 48-62bhp, Honda SP1 127bhp. All of course bhp figures.
I must admit that I was suprsied by the figure.

I have e-mailed MZ and asked that very question. They say that no 25kW models have been imported to the UK, but told me what to check. They also informed me it is easy to convert.

Dont know if anyone can help, but MZ refer to an `aluminium blend' between the 2nd stage carb and trhe cylinder head'. Cant see this from the out side has anyone had experience of removing this item before?

Not sure how easy it is too do. But the piece they are talking about is a restrictor. I would say your best bet is to remove the earbox or boot and hold the slide up and use a mirror and flashlight and try and see if there is anything restricting between the carb and head. Or you could just take the carbs off.
Do you frequent Visordown.com's Motard group. There are a handful of MZ riders that are on there form the UK. One might be nicce enough to offer some help. |

For taking off the carbs:
Take away the bolt for the back frame (below the fuel tank), then push the back down carefully. So you'll have a little more free space for the rubber things between the carbs and the airbox. _________________ Black Panther 99

Well guys, I took the carbs off and no ristrictor. Checked the valve clearences and although the inlet valves were a little tight, no sign of blow by in the inlet manifolds. Will see how the bike performs tomorrow.
Must say though that the performance of the bike does not seem any worse than when it was new. Maybe I got a duff one, maybe it needs a top end rebuild (cant do this until the winter as I use the bike for comuting to work and the 1100 enduro is a bit heavy for the roads I use).
I will keep you updated.

I have finally got round to looking at my street moto to see what else could cause the low power output. Boy o Boy do I feel a fool, took out the air filter, run up the motor and looked into the right hand carb when the motor is reved. You have probablly guessed it by knw, the right hand carb slide hardly moves. This is prob caused by the diapragm failing.
Been in contact with a dealer (and send an e-mail to MZ in Germany) and ordered a new one. £63 `ouch' and its gonna take 10 days to get to me. At least Ithe bike is still on the road and I can contune to use it.
I will let you know if the bikes performance improves.
In the e-mail to MZ Germany, I told them that I have not noticed any signifficent power loss since I brought the bike new just over two years ago. You never know they might even give me teh new part for nothing.
We can live in hope.
