Sounds as tho its running lean. Are you running an aftermarket exhaust ? This would throw out the mix, and if so you wouldn't want too remove the rubber strip ( take off seat it fits to the top edge of air box) as this would let in more air and lean it out even more.

A les restrictive exhuast, jet kit and some dydno time to set it up will give more power from the standard motor. You will also use more fuel, its a trade off that only you know is acceptable.

I've just bought a 2002 Mastiff, a little tatty but not beyond redemption Very Happy

I've only had a few miles test ride on the bike before buying but took it easy as it's been laid up a few months and the chain and sprockets are shot. No eveidence of lean running but it does have a Micron can (rather free flowing if you know what I mean Rolling Eyes ) and the rubber air box seal has been removed....or should I say....lost??!!
Tail pipe is a little sooty but that's as it's been sat for months with just the occasional startup and warm through (I've started a thorough service on it now).

Anyway to the point........do the guys running a Dyno have to be familiar with the bike to set it up or is the process completely down to gas analysis/power output/delivery monitoring etc? Think it would be wise to have the bike looked at as the history is sketchy Sad Motor sounds sweet but I would like to make the most of it.
Also, any recommendations who to see for tuning/performance setup? (I live in Zomerzet, South West UK)

Thanks

The air screw should be about 5 1/2 turns out from bottom (at sea level), the EVAP system should be removed asap, it sounds clogged from sitting too long at the warehouse muting the idle fuel signal (closed butterflys and massive vacume from the down stroke of the piston should in theory give plenty of fuel), BUT with the evap system in place all of the engeneering that went into the carb setup goes out the window thanks to the D.O.T. / EPA. Do that (if you havent already) and you should see a vast improvement.
