Maybe you should post a picture so we know WTH you are talking about?
my bike has the rubber footrests - they are standard on the MZ125 Supermotard but fit right on the Baghiras.
my bike has the plastic gas cap - most do - and it can be bought new from Acerbis. yes, I bought one, the dreaded previous owner lost the gasket, the cap leaked like a sieve. Gasket not available separately and I did not want to make one. I probably still have the old cap somewhere if someone wants it.
If you havent figured it out - almost every part on your Baghira is not made by MZ but by others companies. My rear shock splash guard even says KTM right on it! All this info is to be found here in the forum archives.
Hope this is helpful.

the ONLY metal cap thats attached to the gas cap - so theres no need for a picture...and when i get it out - i will gladly send you a picture.
either way - it doesnt sound like you have any suggestions on how to get it out or how to prevent this from happening to someone esle...
thanks.

ps - and yes we all know that these bikes share a LOT of parts with bmw, ktm - and dont forget husqvarna too!! (the speedo)...but no one is looking for parts archive material - its about a lost metal cap inside the tank. _________________ '03 Baghira (m4 pipe)

sorry but I had and have no idea what gas cap you are talking about. that's why I asked for a pic.
Sounds like you have a nonstandard gas cap which may be why it fell into the gas tank? All the caps I have seen on these bikes are 100% plastic.
just trying to help. guess i'll stop. _________________ 2001 MZ Black Panther

no harm no foul.
but it does say acerbis right on it...and it HAD a metal cap with a rubber liner under it that went in to the neck of the tank (all tucked under the outer plastic screw top)...i dont know why. but one other guy has it too and has noticed that his almost went in as well...
aparently - there are some manufacturing variations...(mine says made in germany) - perhaps the others are not...its a regular scooby doo mystery - only i dont own a dog OR a van...and i havent got a clue why it was there in the first place. but now its gone.
c'est la vie.

then i HIGHLY suggest removing it before it drops in to your tank...i dont really see the need for it anyway...its a lot cheaper to do it now than it will be later!!

Maybe mine already fell into my tank... I didnt buy bike new and when I got it, it had nothing under the cap, thus the leak. I bought a new Acerbis cap because it was cheaper/faster. It's got no metal parts.

im pretty sure its not a 'GOOD' thing - but i also dont think its a 'REALLY BAD' thing either...
but its starting to seem like a fairly common problem and im more curious about those whove said they dont have one - because - MAYBE THEY DID...(insert tense creepy segue music here)

I understand your pain. I have a 2005 baggy (street moto) and that metal gasket has stayed in the gas tank neck. At first I fished it out of the opening and then one time I pushed it almost to the point of falling in the tank. At that point I had enough and removed it from the cap. It's like a cover for the rubber portion of the inside of the gas cap. I know it's too late for you but I would probably try to fish it out. |

I have one of these gaskets. i believe it is a pressure release gasket for areas with warmer climates. perhaps the lack of heat is causing the rubber to shrink some?

I have a plastic screw cap on my bike and never had this problem. You can remove the tank from your bike in about 4 minutes, they are so simple, take it off, drain it, remove the metal monster and flush it through then job done, all sorted! Simple fix buddy!!!! |

Does anyone have a locking gascap that can be put on without any sort of other work needing to be done to the tank? I think that would save us all a lot of trouble, especially if the new cap doesn't have the weird metal thingy. |

well - the aluminum inner cap has been inside my tank for several months now - with no problems...(other than being able to hear it rattle around when i fill the tank)...and - she just rolled over 15,000km...
i LOVE this bike!!!
c'est la vie.
