Hey - installed 41 tooth rear sprocket about 2 weeks ago. cruises noticibly better & imho effortlessly at highway speeds. usually 65 to 75mph no problem. stock power configuration (no mods / with purge canister) has enough torque to haul a$$ without bogging anywhere through the gears. i thought for sure i'd be stalling somewhere in 1st or 2nd sometime around the block... not at all. with the 43 tooth rear i felt i reached the top end too soon most of the time on the open road...not any more! the stock chain (@7500km) is new enough that it leaves room for 1 or 2 more adjustments before i need to remove the one and a half links as recommended by the shop i bought the xt600 sprocket from. i'm luvin it!

also replaced the original headlight bulb with a piaa super plasma bulb ($39.95) which i feel is worth the extra bucks over the ($8.99) H4 from pep boys (it'd better be since i spent it already...right?). last night on my ride i noticed more focused & brighter low beam spread PLUS laser like blind 'em a mile away high beam performance. i like it. to minimize the nasty reflection behind the headlight fairing, i cut some black number plate sticky material down to a cone shape to fit between the headlight and the speedo which knocked the reflection down considerably.

nice!! I do suspension work for couple local bodyshops, and the tech gave me a complete 2002 S class MB headlamp assembly. HID bulb, controller, and wiring. probably gonna install it this weekend. should be pretty bright!!

Is the rear sprocket a OEM Yamaha part? If so, what is the part number? I was at my dealer last week trying to get a smaller rear sprocket and they could not find a part number for anything other than the stock 43 tooth. I really dont want an aftermarket sprocket.....

Ah, an aftermarket JT sprocket, did it look as good as the original? The price looks right

I've toured Shenandoah 3 times so far this year! Camped at Matthews Arm two weeks ago. It's a great ride, lotsa bikes on Skyline drive. IMHO if you want to make Front Royal by 2 you maybe ought to leave earlier. I'm going to stay home this weekend, next weekend is a 4 dayer, I just might head to Quebec.

Maybe some day you could show me around the Pine Barrens eh?

The only difference I see on the sprocket is that there isn’t a recess in the metal around the 4 boltholes. When I replace the chain I want to use a polished steel rear sprocket. Probably look into a Scott oiler too…I wonder how messy they are.

Usually make good time on I-95 but no matter…time is not an issue…just a safe, non-eventful trip down. Anytime you want to do the pines just let me know! Always up for that. Are you riding to Quebec?

I use JT front sprokets and have tried a smaller front one (by 1 tooth) and went back to standard gearing. Might try changing the gearing the other way one day though. As for rear sprockets, I use Renthal ally items anodised in gold, looks good with a gold x-ring chain. Good value to, front and rear sprockets and a gold x-ring chain, £85 (@$136).
