I need stiffer springs for my Baghira...Help!

got some pics today from a friend who was snapping shots at deals gap, and every pic he has of me, the suspension is almost bottomed just from conering...no wonder I wear out toe sliders so fast! I have the low version so there isnt any adjustment for the front fork, and I have the rear preload on maximun, but I need more! Does anybody know any company that makes stiffer springs for this suspension? even German or european companies would be ok....please, my kickstand bracket cant take much more! Wink

how about posting some of those pics?
anyway, a good suspension shop should be able to measure the spring rate, and ordor springs for you. I was thinking about calling progressive suspension, I bought some dual rate springs for my XT600, and those helped out alot. Also, a fork re-valve is needed as well. I have the reduced height version, and feel the fork is WAY too soft. There is a guy that posted all his mods on a web site, ( custom fork brace, scotts dampner...) I seem to recall he bought some heavey springs from some one...

Awesome Pics!!!! How do you like the M4 pipe? whose jet kit did you use?

I just finished building a pipe for my bike. got a Titanium rear can of of a 2004 YZF450. It sounds mean, but I think the jetting is off.

Have you done any sprocket changes?

Just got off the phone w/brad from race tech...ordered the springs reccomended in the motorradna.com article, plus a stiffer spring for the rear WP shock for $210 total...a bargin if it works as well as the article implies.
I love the M4, it is a tad loud when youre up in the rev range, but part throttle cruising is acceptably quiet. I havent rejetted yet, it runs well enough w/stock jetting, just a little lean (pops on decel) but doesnt overheat (which would indicate a seriously lean mix.) I am planning on getting the tunebike.de jet kit, along with their headers and a 7800rpm ign box (why did they put the rev limiter 10rpm past peak power?) Eventually I'll prob get a wiseco hi comp piston and some kind of nasty cam for it (prolly upgrade the valve springs and keepers too.) Its all stuff I've done w/raptor motors, so I know the results will be pleasing.
The gearing hasnt really been much of an issue for me, its good enough that I havent even contemplated changing it. it tops out around 100mph which is more than enough imo, especially on what is essentially an enduro bike on tubed tyres. Maybe after the motor mods I'll play around with it a bit to find the sweet spot, but I'm happy for now

those springs are CHEAP!! you have the reduced height version right?
I could send you the specs for the jetting, my tech at the local dealer did all the research for the M4 pipe, and will let me know.

yep, reduced height...from the looks of the diagrams in the fork manual I have, the low forks are a non-cartridge type that use a shorter spring, but a longer spacer...the springs I ordered will prob be about perfect with no spacers at all, but I can still add some if needed...if they are just too long I'll have to return them for shorter ones with the same rate...no biggie
As to the jetting, I'll go with the tunebike.de kit, use their reccomendations for a baseline and go from there..after all, I am the "tech at the local dealer" (not MZs, but honda, yam, suzi and kawi) Wink

A few reasons...the main one being a friend had a low-milage one less than a year old that he sold to me for $4k...which is better than the $6k places were wanting for unsold previous year model dukes. Plus none of the Big 4 Japanese manus have a supermotard yet (cept yamaha, and even then only recently and for europe only.) Also the MZ uses the yamaha engine that they based the raptor motor on, so theres tons of go-faster goodies intended for the quad that will drop straight into the XTZ motor. And, even tho I make my living spinning wrenches on more common bikes, I prefer obscure rides for myself. Last thing I wanna do is park my GSZXCBR1 with some other bikes and not be able to tell which is mine! Wink

Yes! Incredible racing....awesome to see a roadracer take it after all the motocrossers dominated early in the season, and an american too, with all the euro veterans coming into it

I wouldn't mind an update after your suspension upgrade... I fear I will have the same problem.... Good news about the M4, I was afraid I would regret ordering one....Phlat said it was the can of choice which is consistant with alot of other owners... Would you have perferred the standard height baggy or do you think you will have a better handler with the lower version and better springs

I'm riding a normal height Black Panther and don't have any problems on the racetrack with it. Yes the height is a difference to the FZR600 I had some years before but I got used with it. Big advantage is that you can adjust everything and my damper is very soft (I'm not as large as I have to be for that bike Wink )
One time I was riding a height reduced Baghira and it was disappointing. Felt like on a normal street bike and not on a supermoto.
But I think the height reduced version could also have some advantages. To find out you have to ride the same track with both bikes.

I saw your bike Goldie its very cool looking, Olli and Phlat seem to think I should stick with the standard height... Phlat (my new local MZ buddy) told me If I decided later I perferred his bike which is lower we could swap suspensions... what a deal !
Phlat I can't get my messages out of my out box to send to you ??? I ordered the M4 and will have the dealer do the initial work... I want to find out from you where you got the parts to do ther rear fender tail light etc. Your guy on Aurora is very good he will do the rest of my mods If I need him to... or I can con you into doing it Laughing while I spectate with a beer in my hand (and of coarse a snaps in the other) Smile We have to show our German friends we can have cool MZ's as well...
